The City of Auburn is proposing to enact a Business and Occupation tax starting in 2022. They are looking to take this proposal to City Council for vote in the first quarter of 2021.
For the last two years the Auburn Area Connect board team has been at the table with Mayor Backus to work through the use of a B&O Tax and its effect on the business community. As a result she has been very reluctant to impose the tax and has found ways to keep from doing so earlier on. We are now the last business community in the area that is not paying some form of city B&O tax.
As an organization that emphasizes advocacy for our business community and economic growth, we want to inform our Members and Auburn businesses of this new proposed business tax in the City of Auburn.
The Chamber is here to provide you an opportunity to provide industry feedback on the impacts of a B&O tax on your sector. We will be hosting a series of business sector forums to help facilitate communication about a possible B&O Tax between our business’s sectors, invited Auburn City Council Members and City of Auburn Finance Department. We at the Chamber encourage you as businesses to attend your sector forum prepared with sector tax impacts, concerns, and additional comments as well as invite others from your business sector to attend. We want to make sure that your voice as a business owner is heard and we are hopeful that these forums will give you that chance.
The meeting for the PERSONAL SERVICES SECTOR will be held on Tuesday, December 15th, 5-6 pm
