A MESSAGE FROM THE ALLIANCE OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

Greetings!

We are writing to invite you to join us in our message to King County demanding they recognize and equitably include the disability community in all aspects of their work.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought the Alliance of People with disAbilities and The Arc of King County together in shared advocacy to ensure the needs of all people with disabilities were met throughout King County. In our advocacy, we uncovered alrming issues that extended far beyond the response to COVID and explain why the county's inclusion of the disability community within its COVID response has been dismal.

After repeated attempts to flag these concerns through King County government, it became apparent that it was our responsibility as community-based organizations led by and for the disability community to elevate this issue of systemic ableism and demand better. Therefore, we have written the following report: "Still Left Out After 30 Years of the ADA: King County is Failing the Disability Community" - and accompaning letter to the King County Council, Executive, and Directors.

We hope that as disability advocates and service providers in King County you will sign onto this letter in support of the people with disabilities across King County and our right for full access and inclusion within county government services and support, including but not limited to the COVID response.

We need signatures by Noon on Tuesday, September 29th, 2020 so that we can deliver the letter and report to King County by October 1st.
