The 2020 Entrepreneur of the Year Award was sponsored by Cornerstone Benefits Consulting Group.

The SPOTLIGHT Awards Program is an annual initiative of the Auburn Area CONNECT Chamber of Commerce that recognizes businesses, nonprofits and community leaders in the Auburn Area, who serve the community and, through their business products/services, employee programs, volunteerism and/or mission statement, benefit and improve the Auburn Area and help our region thrive as a center of economic activity and social leadership in the South Puget Sound. Members of the community are invited each year to nominate a deserving business, nonprofit or individual leader for our SPOTLIGHT recognition. Following the nomination period, Auburn Area CONNECT board members and members of the business community vote on the nomination they believe best represents the spirit of each award.

Auburn Examiner 2020 SPOTLIGHT Award Winner
This year, we are proud to recognize the Auburn Examiner as our 2020 "Entrepreneur of the Year" SPOTLIGHT Award winner.

The Auburn Examiner is a local news source that was launched in 2017. According to the website, the "AE" is a "hyperlocal independent news source focused on educating, raising awareness, and empowering through the stories of Auburn, Washington."

The goal of the AE, the website continues, is to "be a conduit for information to our readers, providing a platform for discussion and discourse." As a small, local news source, the AE focuses on telling quality stories. The team is comprised of a core group of volunteers who contribute and support the outlet, and is led by Elizabeth Miller, the site's founder and lead editor.

In this role, Elizabeth has an important job. As written in the award nomination statement: "[Elizabeth] is dedicated to covering the local news in Auburn and disseminating important, hyper-local information to our community. Elizabeth is a recognizable face at all major, community events. She is also successful at utilizing social platforms to effectively engage with community members and promote various awareness raising and recognition campaigns, from National Latinx Business Day to Suicide Prevention Month. Through her efforts, she supports the local business community, nonprofits and city departments."

Kacie Bray, Auburn Area CONNECT CEO, presented the 2020 "Entrepreneur of the Year" SPOTLIGHT Award to Elizabeth Miller, alongside the AE "unofficial" mascot, Six, on Tuesday, October 27th, at the Auburn Area Chamber offices in downtown Auburn.

We want to thank Elizabeth Miller, Six and everyone involved with the Auburn Examiner for serving the Auburn Area community, engaging residents and sharing their stories. We also wish to thank Cornerstone Benefits Consulting Group for sponsoring the "Entrepreneur of the Year" Spotlight Award.
